Declutter Your Kitchen

Posted on 27.12.2015

Decluttering is an activity that takes time, thought and energy. With the New Year approaching, it’s time to declutter the kitchen and make space for new items that the kitchen would really require. If you’re not planning on buying anything new, these tips will make it easier for you to store, find and access the items in your kitchen.

1. Clear out your kitchen drawers and cabinets and sort out the items into these 4 categories –often used, seldom used, never used and useless. Get rid of the items that fall into the “useless” category.

2. Arrange your kitchenware by frequency of use. Arrange the everyday dishes on easy-to-reach lower shelves and special-occasion pieces up above.

3. Place the object by purpose and assign them to specific cabinets; for example, separate the bakeware from the dessert wares.

4. Store pots and pans close to the stove.

5. Keep freezer bags and cling wraps near the refrigerator to store away leftovers easily.

6. Store kitchen utensils you use often in a countertop vessel so it’s within easy reach of your cooking area for efficient food prep.

7. Keep open shelves uncluttered by arranging items in rattan or plastic baskets.

8. When storing food items in cabinets, organize them accordingly. Use dividers and containers to segregate sauces, spices and oils in their own categories.
